We understand that sometimes it’s a challenge traveling to a veterinary clinic, so our solution is to bring the healthcare directly to your pet!

Here are some reasons clients have given for choosing mobile veterinary care:

•  Senior companions or larger pets may struggle being loaded comfortably into a vehicle

•  Nervous pets can avoid the anxiety of a hospital setting’s unfamiliar sights, sounds, & smells

•  Pets need not fear the stress of being separated from their family during hospital procedures

•  Sometimes our companions don’t display the same symptoms when away from home

•  Not all pets can safely be handled when other animals are sharing a waiting room at busy clinics

•  Pets who live in aquariums or enclosures difficult to move can be observed in their own habitats

• Sometimes it’s challenging to manage multiple animals all at the same time

• And avoiding car sickness is always a plus for the sensitive travelers!

Or, if you prefer to bring your pet into us, we also have office appointments available!

Frequently Asked Questions

Here are some frequently asked questions and answers. If you have additional questions that aren't covered here, please feel free to give us a call / text to (970)759-2325 or email at PonderosaPetVet@gmail.com

  1. What are the business hours?

Most appointments are scheduled Monday through Friday between the times of 9am-5p, and we do provide limited availability on the weekends. There may be occasions when an appointment can be scheduled outside normal business hours, and we do check messages intermittently throughout the weekends.

  2. Do I need to have an appointment?

Yes, we see patients by appointment only. Please give us a call so we can check the schedule!

  3. Do you have an office or only offer housecalls?

We do have an office space - If you prefer to bring your pets to us, we have opened our office space doors so that we can accommodate the needs of our community to the best of our abilities! Please let us know your preference for a home visit or an in-office exam when scheduling your appointment.

  4. What forms of payment do you accept?

Cash, Check, Credit Card, & Venmo or PayPal. We can also now accept Care Credit!

  5. Can I make payments?

Full payment is required at the time of service. However, if you are in need of a payment plan, we recommend you look into Care Credit. Visit https://www.carecredit.com/ to learn about using their health card for short term financing options where you can immediately be granted funding of $500 or more for healthcare expenses. No interest is charged on purchases of $200 or more when the full amount is paid within 6, 12, 18 or 24 months.

  6. What blood tests can be done?

We can run almost any type of blood work: Heartworm testing, feline Leukemia/FIV testing, diabetes blood sugar testing, vaccine titer testing, basic annual health screens, pre-surgery screens, thyroid testing, allergy testing, senior health panels, medication level monitoring, and more. Most results are available the same day, others have an approximate 24-48 hour turn around time. Basic health screens test the organ functions, blood counts and clotting function of your pet, and are recommended prior to surgery and on an annual basis for aging pets. Allergy testing can be done for food and/or environmental allergens.

  7. What other type of diagnostic testing can be done?

Fecal specimens can be tested for parasites and the need for deworming. Urine specimens can be tested for infections and kidney health. Diabetes testing using a pet-specific glucometer gives us an immediate blood sugar test result right there at your home where there is less likely to be the interference of a stress response. Eye exams for infection and tear function can be performed, as well as ear exams & cleanings. We also have recently added electrocardiogram (ECG), Doppler ultrasound blood pressure, digital radiographic imaging (X-ray), and ultrasonography to our list of portable equipment.

  8. Do you board pets?

No, but we do have a couple of vet techs who may be available for pet sitting if you are looking for in-home care.
