Nichole R Ramey, DVM:
School: University of Wisconsin-Madison
Special Interests: Senior Issues & Hospice, Exotic Pet Health, Feline Medicine
Dr. Nichole Ramey graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Madison School of Veterinary Medicine, and enjoys working with many types of animals. She focuses on preventative medicine at all life stages, and has special interests in the areas of senior care for dogs & cats, nutrition, feline specialty services, and exotic pet care. She is a member of the American Association of Feline Practitioners and the Animal Hospice & Palliative Care Association. A few of her highlight experiences during her career have included working at Valley of the Kings lion & tiger sanctuary, assisting with conservation efforts at the Georgia Sea Turtle Center, and conducting shark research with the Oklahoma Aquarium.
Dr. Ramey first moved to Durango in 1999, and earned her undergraduate psychology degree at Fort Lewis College. After moving away to pursue her veterinary training, she returned to Colorado and worked for several years in small animal practice. She went on to establish her current business, originally as a 100% housecall practice, in the spirit of wanting to serve the pets and people of the community by more unique and accessible manners. Dabbling in mobile pet care during her time working in a traditional clinic led Dr Ramey to witness firsthand some of the challenges faced by pet owner's who were trying their very best to provide treatments for their beloved companions once they returned home. Upon recognizing this gap in the delivery of healthcare to people's pets, and realizing she had the means to help bridge it, she decided to found Ponderosa Pet in January of 2019.
Dr Ramey has passionately devoted her life to the care of animals and building a veterinary practice that serves the needs of Durango and neighboring communities. When she's not being a doctor and a small-business owner, she enjoys time with her own pets, friends, and family by traveling, engaging in outdoor activities, and pursuing creative endeavors.
